DESCRIPTION
The 1,300-hectare Mercadante Forest was created in the 1900s to prevent flooding in the city of Bari, thus playing a crucial role in mitigating hydrogeological risk.
Recognized as a Site of Community Importance (SCI), it is home to a rich biodiversity that includes animal and plant species of conservation interest, offering visitors nature discovery trails, along with picnic areas.
